Nairobi: AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has been named Betika/Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) Coach of the month for December 2025. Ambani guided AFC Leopards to the top of the SportPesa League after 14 rounds of the 2025-2026 season.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ambani led Leopards to three wins and a draw in December, including a significant victory in the Mashemeji Derby against Gor Mahia with a score of 1-0. Other notable wins were a 2-1 triumph over Ulinzi Stars and a 1-0 victory against Bidco United. The team only dropped points against defending champions Kenya Police in a goalless draw.

Fred Ambani expressed his gratitude upon receiving the award, acknowledging his team's dedication and hard work. 'I'm thrilled to receive this award,' Ambani stated. 'I'm proud of my team's hard work and dedication. We're excited for what lies ahead in this New Year as we seek to challenge for the League title.'

During the award ceremony in Nairobi, Betika Marketing Executive Marya Wachira praised Ambani, especially for the derby win, and encouraged him to continue delivering such results. 'At Betika we are very proud of Ambani for taking home the December 2025 award; it is no mean feat, especially noting that he emerged victorious in the Country's most significant football derby,' Wachira commented.

The award's other nominees included Bryan Mathews, coach of the National Cereals and Produce Board handball team, and Zadock Adika, coach of the 3€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬3 basketball team. Victor Ng'ani and Evans Owino, both coaches for the Africa Youth Championships, and Patrick Sang, coach of the DCI women volleyball team, were also nominated. Additionally, Simon Jawichire of the Catholic Monks Rugby team was recognized for his achievements.

SJAK President James Waindi congratulated Ambani, noting the award as a recognition of his significant contributions to Kenyan football. 'Ambani is an inspiration to many ex-players who dream to at one time become coaches,' Waindi remarked.
