France and Kenya Spearhead Coalition for International Climate Tax

Dubai – At COP28, France and Kenya have initiated efforts to create a coalition of countries in support of establishing an international tax within two years. This tax aims to generate trillions of dollars for developing countries most affected by climate change.

According to Africa News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the COP28 climate conference, announced that France, Kenya, Barbados, and other nations are forming an “international taskforce” to work on this initiative, with conclusions expected at next year’s G20 summit in Rio.

In a related development, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that Spain is set to increase its contribution to the climate disaster fund by 20 million euros, further bolstering international efforts to address climate change impacts.
