Four suspects will have their day in a court of law

WESTERN CAPE – In the pursuit of excellent service delivery in our fight against crime, police members in the Western Cape went the extra mile when they arrested four suspects and ensure that they are brought before court.

Police members of Maitland Flying Squad conducted a vehicle check point in Browns Farm, Nyanga on Wednesday 14 June 2023 when they stopped a VW Polo and searched the vehicle and the three occupants. They found and confiscated an imitation firearm and drugs which were found in their possession. Further investigation indicated that the motor vehicle they were travelling in, was stolen. They arrested and detained the three suspects between the ages of 29 and 35 on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of an imitation firearm as well as the illegal possession of drugs.

In an unrelated intervention, Elsiesriver Crime Prevention Unit spearheaded an intelligence driven operation conducted at a premises in Hazel Street in Avonwood, Elsiesriver. The police members approached the premises and upon entering the bedroom they saw a man who wanted to flee but manage to prevent him to escape. During the search of the room the members confiscated a 9mmm pistol with ammunition hidden underneath a pillow. They arrested and detained the 35-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Goodwood Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charge, once charged.
