Four Perish in Collision Outside Kalkfeld

Kalkfeld: Four people died instantly on Thursday when an Isuzu mini-truck and a 16-seater passenger bus collided head-on outside Kalkfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, stated on Friday that the accident occurred around 19h45, approximately seven kilometres south of Kalkfeld. Preliminary police investigations reveal that there were two male occupants in the truck, while the bus had 15 occupants, including its driver.

The truck was travelling from the direction of Omaruru towards Kalkfeld, while the bus was headed to the coast at the time of the accident. "It is alleged that the left tyre of the truck burst and its 44-year-old driver lost control, causing it to swerve across the road several times until it collided head-on with the oncoming bus, killing the four people, all male, on the spot," Mbeha said.

Three of the deceased were travelling in the bus, while the fourth was a passenger in the truck. Mbeha stated that the truck driver fractured his right leg, and the 37-year-old bus driver fractured his left leg. Other occupants sustained moderate to serious injuries and were transported to the Otjiwarongo and Omaruru state hospitals for medical attention.

Police investigations continue.
