Four Arrested in Kariega for Alleged Vehicle Hijacking

GQEBERHA – A swift operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Kwanobuhle led to the arrest of four suspects, two males aged 24 and two females aged 19, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, in Kariega for their alleged involvement in a vehicle hijacking.

According to South African Police Service, the incident reportedly occurred early Saturday morning at around 04:30. According to police, the driver of a VW T-Cross was intercepted by a white Ford Lazer in Mtuze Street, Ikamvelihle, in the Motherwell area. The victim was robbed of his vehicle, cell phone, wallet, and cash by three individuals, one of whom was armed with a firearm. Following the hijacking, the stolen vehicle was reported to the SAPS with the help of the local community.

Later that day, at approximately 09:00, officers from SAPS Kwanobuhle, while patrolling the area, received an alert about the hijacked VW T-Cross. They spotted the vehicle on Mondile Road, Kwanobuhle, and attempted to stop it. However, the suspects tried to flee, eventually losing control of the vehicle and coming to a halt after hitting the verge of the road.

The four suspects were apprehended at the scene and have been charged with hijacking and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. They are scheduled to appear before the Kwanobuhle Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 27, 2023.

This arrest is a testament to the vigilance and quick action of the SAPS in responding to criminal activities and ensuring public safety.
