Former Swapo Youth Leader Launches New Political Party in Namibia

WINDHOEK — Sakaria Kandenge, a former leader within the Swapo Party Youth League and the Independent Patriots for Change, has announced the creation of a new political entity, Team Progress Namibia (TPNA), aiming to make significant strides in the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to Namibia Press Agency, who spoke with Nampa on Monday, TPNA will support independent presidential candidate Ally Angula in the November 2024 elections. The party, positioned as a civic organization, aims to promote free and fair political participation, protect fundamental rights, and ensure good governance characterized by legitimacy, direction, performance, fairness, and accountability. “The organisation seeks to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and political stability in Namibia,” Kandenge stated, outlining the party’s commitment to developing a viable economic policy that supports growth in human capital, trade, production, distribution, and exchange.

TPNA’s organizational structure is robust, featuring various levels of governance including national, regional, and constituency tiers, along with multiple committees and working groups. The party’s leadership includes a national convention, an executive committee, a board of trustees, and a national caucus, all overseen by a president with substantial authority over key operational decisions.

Kandenge also emphasized TPNA’s broader goals, which include setting a unique and strategic example for Namibia, promoting constitutional democracy and the rule of law, and fostering good relations with neighboring nations and international bodies such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), the Commonwealth, and the United Nations. “The organisation seeks to uplift and emancipate all people, encouraging representation and respecting the linguistic, cultural, and religious diversity of its members,” he added.

As the political landscape in Namibia heats up with the approach of the 2024 elections, TPNA joins an alliance of four parties and civic organizations campaigning for a government of national unity, which includes the United People’s Movement, Kingdom of God Party, National Empowerment Fighting Corruption, Namibian Youth Power, and KG Namibia, all rallying behind Ally Angula’s candidacy.
