Zhuhai: Dai Daojin, a former senior political advisor in Hunan Province, has been handed a death sentence with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes. Dai, who previously served as the deputy secretary of the leading Party members group of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and as its vice chairperson, was found guilty of accepting bribes totaling over 107 million yuan (approximately 15 million U.S. dollars) over more than twenty years starting in 2000.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Intermediate People's Court of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province revealed Dai used his influential roles in Hunan to facilitate benefits for others in business operations, project contracting, and job promotions. Even after retiring, between 2021 and 2023, Dai continued leveraging his influence for profit in project contracting and payment settlements, collecting additional bribes of over 3.6 million yuan.
The court ruled that Dai's political rights are revoked for life, and all his personal assets will be seized. Despite the grave nature of his offenses justifying a death sentence, the court granted leniency due to his full confession, demonstrated remorse, and proactive return of illegal gains.
