Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu Advocates for Tree Planting in Nyeri

Nyeri, Kenya – Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu joined residents of Nyeri County in a tree planting exercise in Kiganjo. The event was part of a national initiative to bolster environmental conservation and food production.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ngunjiri, speaking at the event, stressed the importance of the tree planting initiative, which aligns with President William Ruto’s directive to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. He encouraged all 20 million registered voters in Kenya to plant two trees each, emphasizing the ongoing need for tree planting beyond the designated National Tree Planting Day.

Ngunjiri noted that Nyeri County leads in tree cover nationally with a 45.17% rate. He advocated for continuous environmental conservation efforts to ensure a greener Nyeri County and improved forest cover. Highlighting the multifaceted benefits of tree planting, Ngunjiri pointed out its role in combating climate change, preventing soil erosion, providing shade, improving air quality, and offering habitat for various wildlife species.
