Former MP Condemns Anti-Govt Protests

Former Machakos Town MP Dr. Victor Munyaka has called on Azimio leaders to stop countrywide anti-government protests planned to kick off Wednesday. Munyaka said that although picketing is enshrined in the country’s constitution, the destruction of property and loss of lives witnessed in previous protests were unwarranted. ‘Protesters have every right to demonstrate, but they should do so within the law and maintain peace,” he said. Addressing residents of Machakos town when he toured the area Monday, the former MP called on Kenyans to give the Kenya Kwanza administration ample time to deliver on its promises. ‘I know the cost of living is very high, but the president has yet to unveil his maiden budget, which is already being challenged in court. Give the presidents at least two or three years,” he noted. ‘Munyaka appealed for calm and asked the residents to shun the anti-government protests that left trail destruction in Machakos last Wednesday. ”Ukambani is a peaceful region, and I’m sure the president has heard the pleas of Kenyans in regards to the current economic situation,” he added.
