Windhoek: Newly sworn-in Member of Parliament Peya Mushelenga on Friday emphasised that he returns to the National Assembly equipped with a wealth of experience. According to Namibia Press Agency, Mushelenga, a former MP and Cabinet minister, was sworn in following the passing of James Uerikua over the Easter weekend. He took his oath of office for Namibia's eighth National Assembly before Deputy Judge President Shafimana Ueitele in the National Assembly chambers. 'I'm bringing the experience that I've accumulated over the years, both as a backbencher as well as a member of the Executive. I have experience of serving in standing committees of Parliament, I serves in three of the committees,' he said in an interview with Nampa after the swearing-in proceedings. He further noted that he has a wealth of institutional memory built over years of service within government structures. Mushelenga underscored that he will work with fellow parliamentarians across the political spectrum in serving the people of Namib ia. 'But also, the party has its programme, it has its manifesto. I will have to ensure that we implement our manifesto, which we presented to the electorate,' the Swapo member said. He added that he will carry out his duties in accordance with the standing rules and orders of Parliament, as well as the Constitution, after taking an oath 'to protect and defend the constitution and serve all Namibian people, irrespective of their political or religious affiliation.' Mushelenga previously served as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, and Minister of Urban and Rural Development.
