ELDORET – The long-standing mystery of the missing former boss of the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has taken a new turn with the discovery of human remains on his property in Keiyo South Sub County. The remains, believed to be of Silvanos Tubei, who disappeared 12 years ago, were found in a shallow grave at his Chepkurmum farm.

According to Kenya News Agency, the discovery was made by children from the neighborhood while fetching firewood on Tubei’s property. They stumbled upon a partially buried blanket, under which the remains were wrapped. A worker on the farm, who was performing routine cleaning duties, alerted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the children raised the alarm last Sunday.

Keiyo South OCPD Abdulahi Dahir confirmed the incident, noting that a missing person’s report filed by Tubei’s relatives was still active. The case had previously led to the arrest and subsequent arraignment of Tubei’s estranged wife and another suspect in 2012. However, due to lack of evidence, as neither Tubei’s body nor Tubei himself were found at the time, the suspects were released.

Dahir further stated that officers from the DCI visited the site and have cordoned off the area. They are awaiting court orders to exhume the remains for DNA testing to confirm their identity.

The case has reignited suspicions among local residents, some of whom believe Tubei’s second wife, who was among those arrested, might be involved in his disappearance and possible murder. She reportedly left the homestead abruptly after being acquitted. Villagers speculate that she may have hired hitmen to kill Tubei, citing the couple’s troubled relationship and her sudden departure.

Tubei’s personal life, marked by heavy drinking and frequent quarrels with his estranged wife, had been turbulent prior to his disappearance. Following his first wife’s death, he married his second wife, with whom he had one child. Since his disappearance, two of Tubei’s children from his first marriage have relocated abroad, while his second wife vanished without a trace along with their child.

The recovery of the remains on Tubei’s farm has brought a new dimension to the case, potentially providing answers to the questions surrounding his mysterious disappearance over a decade ago.
