Former Education Minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa Honored at Funeral in Mariental


MARIENTAL, HARDAP REGION — Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, the former Minister of Education, Arts and Culture and Governor of the Hardap Region, was honored in a funeral service on Saturday in Mariental following her passing on July 14, 2024, in a Windhoek hospital.



According to Namibia Press Agency, who spoke highly of Hanse-Himarwa at the ceremony, the late minister was remembered as a woman of “substance, conviction, and honour.” President Mbumba praised her lifelong dedication to the betterment of Namibia, describing her as a champion of justice, equity, and unity. “She lived a life that was not just well-lived, but magnificently lived, a life dedicated to others and devoted to making Namibia a better place,” Mbumba remarked, noting her impact on the nation’s political and cultural landscape.



The funeral was attended by Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitawh, among other notable political figures, reflecting the broad respect Hanse-Himarwa commanded across Namibian society. The president’s eulogy highlighted her role as a committed patriot and a personal friend, acknowledging the profound sense of loss felt by many. “Thank you, Comrade Katrina, my younger sister and friend, for having been a part of our lives. Though the sparkle of your eye is no more, you have left us with endless memories that will continue to burn bright through the ages,” he concluded.
