Foreign Ministry Holds Emergency Meeting on Safety of S. Korean Nationals Amid Los Angeles Protests

Los Angeles: The foreign ministry on Tuesday convened an emergency consular meeting with diplomatic missions in Los Angeles and relevant agencies to discuss strategies for safeguarding South Korean nationals amid escalating protests over immigration raids in the U.S. city.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Yoon Chu-sok, director-general for overseas Koreans and consular affairs, led the videoconference, emphasizing the need for officials to maintain close coordination and regularly update Koreans in the area through safety notices and other communication channels, as stated by the ministry in a release.

Tensions have been on the rise in Los Angeles following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops to suppress violent protests sparked by the arrests of numerous migrants.

The ministry confirmed that no South Korean nationals have been reported detained or harmed in relation to the immigration raids.
