Chengdu: Strolling in the lush bamboo forest bathed in sunlight-one of the filming locations for the Oscar-winning movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”-Helen Mahama, minister counselor of the Ghana Embassy in China, marveled at the fresh air and the sustainable growth exemplified by the vast bamboo forest in Yibin, Sichuan Province.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Sichuan tour of dozens of foreign diplomats from Monday to Saturday was a side event of the Global Panda Partners 2024 (GPP) conference. The conference, held on Tuesday in Chengdu, serves as an international platform for dialogue and exchange focused on building consensus and planning the construction of global ecological civilization. The event themed “Harmonious Coexistence Between Man and Nature,” brought together over 380 attendees from more than 30 countries and regions.

During the tour, foreign guests visited several venues highlighting China’s ecological preservation and sustainable development, including a giant panda breeding bas
e, a bamboo forest, an ecological liquor factory, and the ecological park of Sanjiangkou, where the Jinsha and Minjiang rivers converge into the Yangtze River. Jordanian Ambassador to China Hussam Al Husseini noted China’s extensive plans and areas for wildlife protection, environmental protection, and carbon emission reduction as part of its green economic development.

China’s commitment to ecological preservation was further underscored by a report on ecological civilization construction released at the conference. Co-authored by a national high-level think tank affiliated with Xinhua and another research institution, the report highlights China’s consistent efforts in advancing green and low-carbon transformation. Between 2012 and 2023, China maintained an average annual economic growth of over 6 percent, while reducing energy consumption intensity by 26.4 percent.

Kiribati’s Ambassador to China David Teaabo highlighted China’s leadership in electric vehicles and battery technology, as well as renewable
energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. He emphasized the symbolic significance of the panda in representing friendship, biodiversity conservation, and harmony between man and nature, urging that these themes be highlighted in global discourse.

The GPP conference, through its focus on sustainability and ecological harmony, aims to elevate the discourse on environmental conservation and underscore the role of international cooperation in achieving a balanced and sustainable global ecosystem.
