ADDIS ABABA — Former Manchester United winger Luis Nani and Nigerian football icon Nwankwo Kanu arrived in Addis Ababa today to join the 80th anniversary celebrations of Mechal Sports Club, where they are guests of honor.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, upon their arrival at Bole International Airport, Nani and Kanu were greeted by the State Minister of Tourism Sileshi Girma, Mechal Sports Club Board Chairman Seife Getahun, and Director of Defense Media Operations, Brigadier General Kuma Mideksa. Mechal Sports Club, founded in 1936, has a long-standing reputation in Ethiopia for fostering talent in various sports and contributing to the nation’s recognition in international sports arenas.

The club, which is closely associated with the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), has played a significant role not only in sports but also in boosting the morale of the army and supporting community wellbeing. The celebration of its 80th anniversary highlights the club’s contribution to Ethiopian sports and its role in developing players who have represented the nation in international competitions.
