Zoundwéogo: The Zak La Yilguemdé Association (AZLY) organized a football holiday camp in Guiba, Zoundwéogo province, from June 13 to 15, 2025, for students from schools participating in its ‘At School with Complete Peace of Mind’ program. The initiative aimed to instill a spirit of mutual aid and resilience among the young participants.
According to Burkina Information Agency, five teams-FC Solidarité, FC Entraide, FC Courage, FC Compétences, and FC Résilience-competed in the event. The final match, played after ten initial games, concluded with a score of 4-2, highlighting the collaborative nature of the competition. Aimée Yaméogo, executive secretary of the Zak La Yilguemdé Association, noted that the primary goal was not to declare a single winner but to focus on the collective achievements and relationships built among the students.
Yaméogo emphasized that the camp provided an opportunity for young people to develop mutual aid, solidarity, resilience, and skills. She expressed satisfaction with the even
t’s success, noting that the students gained much more than just athletic experience. Participants like José Congo and Félix Zoungrana shared their experiences of forming new friendships and fostering a supportive community, which they plan to maintain beyond the camp.
Sanfo Abdoul Ramin, a physical education and sports teacher involved in the camp, observed that a strong team spirit prevailed throughout the competition, highlighting football’s role in fostering cohesion among the youth.
The ‘At School with Peace of Mind’ program, supported by the Dutch Kinderpostzegels foundation, seeks to empower children through participation and mutual support. Yaméogo explained that these activities aim to enhance children’s chances of success by encouraging them to assist one another. The football holiday camp serves as the starting point for a series of activities planned for the 35th Day of the African Child, as part of the program’s ongoing efforts.
