Food Security at the Forefront of Deliberations in Yako

Passor©: The Technical Committee of the Provincial Food Security Council (CT-CPSA) of Passor© convened for its first regular session of the year 2025 in Yako, focusing on the theme “Food and nutritional situation of households in Passor©: Current situation and Perspectives”. The meeting was led by the High Commissioner of Passor©, Daouda Sangar©, with the primary aim to assess the agro-sylvo-pastoral, food, nutritional, and humanitarian conditions in the region.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting served as a platform to review the 2025 dry agro-sylvo-pastoral campaign. The discussions included presentations on various aspects such as the food and nutritional status of households and children, as well as the situation regarding drinking water, sanitation, and humanitarian efforts.



Odile Bonou, head of the department responsible for statistical and sectoral studies at the provincial directorate of agriculture in Passor©, highlighted that the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign experienced an early and unusual onset of rains. She noted that the security crisis is contributing to rising food prices.



L©a Ouoba, the focal point for nutrition in the Yako health district, reported significant progress in the food and nutritional situation of households, thanks to support from partner NGOs and associations like UNICEF, TDH, and SEMUS. On the humanitarian front, the provincial directorate of humanitarian action outlined several initiatives undertaken by the State and its partners to support internally displaced persons and vulnerable communities during the latter half of 2024.



The meeting also addressed the rehabilitation of water facilities, which included simplified portable water supply systems, high-flow boreholes, and the construction of five latrine blocks. Ignace Nebi©, the provincial director in charge of water in Passor©, provided updates on these developments.



Gilbert Ou©draogo, president of the CT-CPSA of Passor©, expressed appreciation for the progress and discussions, thanking financial partners for their contributions.
