Flooding in Hèrèdougou Forces Residents to Seek Refuge in Classrooms


HÈRÈDOUGOU—Dozens of residents in Hèrèdougou have taken refuge in the village’s school classrooms following heavy rainfall over the past 72 hours. The rains, which occurred during the night of August 20 to 21, 2024, caused significant flooding, resulting in widespread destruction.



According to Burkina Information Agency, many homes and shops in Hèrèdougou collapsed under the weight of the accumulated water. The material damage across the village is extensive, with numerous residents fleeing their homes to seek shelter in the local school. Those displaced brought with them essential items, including food, poultry, and livestock, as they sought safety from the rising waters.
