Flood Victims in Meru County Receive Aid from Red Cross Society

Meru, Kenya – Approximately 287 households affected by recent floods in Maua Town, Igembe South Sub-County of Meru County, have received essential aid from the Red Cross Society. The aid includes kitchen utensils, bedding, bar soaps, mosquito nets, jerricans, tents, and water disinfectants, crucial for the flood victims whose properties were damaged.

Malcom Kanyoko, Head of Red Cross Society in the Central Region, stated during the distribution event at Igembe South Sub-County public works ground, that the donated items are intended to alleviate the suffering of individuals displaced by the floods. He emphasized the importance of these supplies in ensuring the continuation of livelihoods for the affected residents.

Kanyoko also advised individuals living in flood-prone areas to evacuate to safer locations. Local residents, including Hellen Kinya from Iriene and John Kirimi from Maua Town, expressed gratitude for the Red Cross Society’s assistance. They called upon the government and other well-wishers to provide further support to those affected by the floods.

Karen Kagwiria, the Maua Location Chief, commended the Red Cross Society for responding promptly to the needs of flood victims and cautioned residents against venturing into flooded areas or crossing dilapidated bridges to prevent endangering their lives.
