NANGARHAR PROVINCE – At least three individuals died and 20 more were injured after flash floods hit the Koz Kunar district in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, officials reported on Friday. The sudden floods, triggered by intense rainfall, wreaked havoc on the area, demolishing numerous homes and causing significant financial distress to the residents.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Provincial Director for Information and Culture, the disaster inflicted severe damage, destroying approximately 150 residential houses throughout the district. Badlon emphasized the scale of the devastation and the ongoing risk as the weather department anticipates further rainfall. This weather is expected to potentially lead to additional flooding across 12 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces over the coming days.
Local authorities and emergency services are currently engaged in rescue and relief operations. They are focused on providing necessary assistance to those affected and attempting to mitigate further damage as the region braces for more adverse weather. The community’s resilience is being tested as they navigate the aftermath of this natural disaster and the looming threat of more to come.
