Soum/djibo: The flag-raising ceremony was relocated to the 22nd Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 22) to strengthen the bond between the fighting forces and the local population. The monthly national flag-raising ceremony was held this Monday, August 3, 2026, at the 22nd Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 22) in Djibo, at the initiative of the High Commissioner of the Soum province, Comrade Wend N©rWilfried Tougma, in collaboration with the Commander of the BIR 22. This relocation, a first in the province, aims to strengthen the relationship between the Forces engaged in the field and the population, in a context of reconquering the national territory.

According to Burkina Information Agency, usually held at the High Commission, the ceremony took place this time within the BIR 22, also known as the "Shock Battalion". It brought together administrative, customary and religious authorities, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), technical and humanitarian partners, civil society organizations, as well as a strong mobilization of the population.

In his address, the High Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the command of BIR 22 for agreeing to host this republican ceremony. He welcomed this initiative, which he described as a strong symbol of the rapprochement between the Fighting Forces and the people, in a context marked by the reconquest of the national territory and the strengthening of social cohesion.

Taking advantage of this platform, he reviewed the main activities carried out in the province during the month of July 2026. He notably mentioned the holding of the second session of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP), dedicated to social cohesion and living together, the organization of a major public conference on this theme, the installation of the provincial office of the Council of Persons Living with a Disability, the popularization of texts relating to the National Consultative Youth Council (CNCJ-BF), as well as the establishment of its provincial office.

Among the actions of solidarity and support for development and security initiatives are the donation of three tons of rice and 30 cartons of soap offered by the 28th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 28) to the populations and internally displaced persons of Arbinda, the material and financial support of the municipality of Djibo for the organization of the patriotic immersion, the donation of 260 liters of fuel given by the citizen watch of Arbinda to the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, as well as the awareness activities on the wearing of helmets and the distribution of helmets for the benefit of the municipal agents and the members of the special delegation of Kelbo.

The ceremony ended in an atmosphere of patriotic fervor and conviviality. Beyond its republican and symbolic character, this relocated edition of the raising of the colors illustrated the desire of the provincial authorities to consolidate the links between the Fighting Forces and the populations, while reaffirming the collective commitment of the actors of the province in favor of patriotism, social cohesion and the building of a sovereign, resilient and prosperous Burkina Faso.
