Nandi East — Leonard Mgute, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) of Nandi East, confirmed that five students did not attend the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams that began yesterday.
According to Kenya News Agency, the absence was noted at the end of the first day of the examination period. Preliminary investigations indicated that the parents of the absent students had relocated from Nandi to other parts of the country. Further investigations are underway to determine why the students did not appear for the exams.
Additionally, three students who are currently admitted to Nandi Hills Sub County Hospital wrote their KCPE papers in the hospital ward. The DCC stated that necessary security measures were put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the exams for these students.
Transporting exam papers to various centers in the interior of Nandi East Sub County proved challenging due to poor road conditions exacerbated by heavy rains on Sunday evening. “We delivered the papers late, resulting in the late commencement; however, we have resolved to start the transportation of the remaining papers early enough to ensure candidates start writing them as per the stipulated time,” Mgute said.
In terms of security, DCC Mgute assured that sufficient measures have been taken, with each of the 106 KCPE centers in Nandi East being allocated two security officers. The sub-county has a total of 4,248 KCPE candidates, consisting of 2,173 boys and 2,075 girls. In the KPSEA category, there are 107 centers with a total of 3,526 candidates, comprised of 1,835 boys and 1,691 girls. Additionally, there are five private candidates sitting for the KCPE at Nandi Hills Township Primary, including two men and three women.
