As they say, “police random routine checks will always be an integral part of policing” and that became apparent after five male occupants in a grey Toyota Conquest were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, following the recovery of two unlicensed firearms from their vehicle in East London last night.
On Friday, 9 June 2023 around 23:30, it is alleged that police were patrolling at Inveleigh Terrance, Quigney in East London.
Police stopped the suspicious vehicle, a grey Toyota Conquest with five male occupants. After completing the pleasantries, and a subsequent request to conduct routine and random search, the vehicle was eventually searched and police recovered two (02) unlicensed firearms with ammunition.
The occupants were arrested after failing to account for the two firearms, and none of them produced licences of ownership for the firearms.
The five suspects aged between 18 and 22 are due to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 June 2023.
