Ouagadougou: A traffic accident involving two public transport buses left five dead and thirteen injured on the night of Tuesday, January 13 to Wednesday, January 14, 2026 on the national road no. 1 (RN1), between Hound© and Boni, AIB learned from a security source.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the bodies of the victims were taken to the morgue and the injured were evacuated to the Hound© Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) overnight. Information gathered indicates that the two vehicles had left C´te d'Ivoire and were heading to Ouagadougou. The same sources suggest that the probable cause of the accident was a poorly executed overtaking maneuver. The force of the impact also suggests excessive speed.
The damage is visible on the buses: one was hit on the rear left side and the other on the front right side. Security officials are urging road users, particularly public transport drivers, to strictly adhere to the traffic code to prevent such tragedies. They are also calling on them to exercise caution and tolerance on the road.
