Five Christmas Babies Born at Katima Mulilo District Hospital

Katima mulilo: Five 'Christmas babies' were born at the Katima Mulilo District Hospital on Christmas Day 2025. Sister Emely Chidolo informed Nampa on Friday that the first Christmas baby, a girl, was delivered at 02h15 weighing 2.780 kilogrammes (kg). This was followed by the birth of a baby boy weighing 3.145kg, delivered via C-section at 08h23.

According to Namibia Press Agency, additional babies were delivered on Thursday at 16h35, including a baby boy weighing 3.125kg. Later, at 18h30, a girl weighing 3.150kg was born, and the largest baby, a girl weighing 3.9kg, arrived at 21h00. Sister Chidolo assured that "the mothers and their babies are doing just fine thus far," noting that all deliveries were normal except for one C-section.

Speaking to Nampa, 19-year-old first-time mother, Emelia Kachelo, expressed her happiness about giving birth on December 25th, especially since her newborn baby boy shares a birthday with his 44-year-old grandmother, Sheras Kachelo. "I'm happy I made it. The doctors and nurses were so helpful, and before I delivered, I had placed everything in God's hands. More importantly, my son is okay and will share a birthday with his grandmother," she said.

In 2024, the Katima Mulilo District Hospital in the Zambezi Region saw 10 Christmas babies delivered, with the largest weighing 3.5kg.
