KAJIADO – In a significant initiative aligning with World Water Day, First Lady Rachel Ruto extended her support to Kajiado West constituency schools by donating water tanks, enhancing their access to clean drinking water. The ceremony, held at Kisaju Primary School, underscored the commitment to bolstering students’ well-being and educational success through improved water resources.

According to Kenya News Agency, which has direct implications for learners’ health, attendance, and academic performance. By alleviating the challenges posed by limited water access, the initiative aims to support the government’s objective of achieving a 100% transition rate in education, ensuring that every child remains in school.

Highlighting the broader community benefits, the First Lady emphasized that access to clean water is fundamental not only for drinking but also for enabling schools to cultivate fruit and vegetable gardens. These gardens are envisioned to enrich students’ diets and serve as practical learning sites, aligning with the Competency-Based Curriculum’s objectives.

Beyond the immediate impact on schools, Mrs. Ruto articulated a broader vision for water resource development, advocating for the establishment of additional water infrastructures such as boreholes, wells, and water pans in all public schools. Her advocacy extends to environmental conservation, urging Kajiado residents to engage in tree planting to combat climate change and support the national ambition of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

The event, commemorating World Water Day, resonated with global efforts to spotlight the critical issue of freshwater scarcity and mobilize action towards ensuring safe water access for the 2.2 billion individuals facing water insecurity worldwide. Distinguished attendees, including Kajiado West MP George Sunkuiya and Woman Representative Leah Sankaire, joined the First Lady in this community-focused initiative, reinforcing the collective commitment to sustainable water solutions and environmental stewardship.
