First International Flights Mark New Era for Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport


Luanda: TAAG Angolan Airlines celebrated a significant milestone on Sunday as it inaugurated the first international flights at the newly opened Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN). The inaugural regional passenger flight, carrying 97 passengers, landed smoothly at 3:30 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. GMT), greeted by enthusiastic applause from airport and airline staff.



According to Angola Press News Agency, additional flights soon followed, including arrivals from Lagos, Nigeria, with 68 passengers; Lisbon, carrying 279 passengers; and Nairobi, Kenya, with 83 passengers. Notably, the flight from Lisbon utilized a Boeing 777 aircraft, marking TAAG’s first intercontinental passenger flight, which landed at 6:35 a.m.



The Temporary Airport Operator highlighted that this event signifies the airport’s transition into a new operational phase, enabling it to host the entire international flight network. This development represents a complete shift of the national flag carrier’s operations to the new airport, showcasing its full operational and technological capability since its activation.



The Temporary Airport Operator also emphasized that this phase marks a pivotal moment in the operational transition from 4 de Fevereiro Airport to Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport. It reflects the concerted efforts of various public and private entities under the Ministry of Transport’s guidance.



Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport is now fully operational with active technological and operational systems, meeting international standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. The airport is designed to offer a premium travel experience, seamlessly integrating comfort, technology, and hospitality from arrival to boarding.



The airport offers a range of services, including automated check-in and baggage systems, VIP lounges, diverse dining options, ample parking, mobility facilities, information desks, support services for passengers with disabilities, a medical center, a pharmacy, and free Wi-Fi.



With TAAG’s international flights fully transferred, Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport is set to enhance its strategic role as Angola’s gateway to the world, boosting tourism, trade, and regional connectivity. The airport is committed to implementing all necessary operational coordination and communication measures with stakeholders to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient transition.
