First Edition of Artistic and Cultural Month Launched to Transmit Indigenous Knowledge to Students

Kadiogo: The first edition of the Artistic and Cultural Month (MAC) has been launched by the Secretary General of the Kadiogo region, Assata Angelina Traor, in Ouagadougou. This event, scheduled from June 15 to July 15, 2026, aims to introduce students to arts and cultural professions and their history.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional director in charge of preschool education in Kadiogo emphasized that the month will focus on training, learning trades, and immersing children in indigenous knowledge. The children will learn about their history and receive support from resource people such as traditional chiefs, keepers of Burkina Faso's history, and artisans skilled in endogenous knowledge.

Adjarata Sawadogo noted that the initial artistic performances by the learners indicate a promising start for the initiative. She appreciated the involvement of traditional authorities, who have played a significant role in the holistic education of children.

The event featured performances by children, including songs, traditional dances, and stories, facilitated by the masters of ceremonies. Organizers stated that these activities embody the spirit of MAC, transforming schools into spaces for transmitting indigenous values.

The theme for the first edition of MAC is "Arts, cultures and indigenous knowledge at school: teaching link, tool for education and resilience. Together in Burkina Faso."
