Firefighters Report 15 Deaths Across Angola Over Weekend

Luanda: According to Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB), 15 people died and 53 were injured in 36 different incidents across Angolan territory over the last weekend. This alarming figure highlights an increase in fatalities and injuries compared to the previous weekend.

This information is included in the 72-hour incident report and indicates an increase of three deaths, 24 injuries, and two incidents compared to the previous weekend. The report details various causes of the incidents, with seven of the deaths attributed to drowning, two to suicides, two to traffic accidents, and one each to a wall collapse, burns, a lightning strike, and an unknown cause.

According to Angola Press News Agency, 37 of the injuries were due to traffic accidents, eight were due to physical assault, five were due to lightning strikes, one was due to a wall collapse, and the same number were due to alligator attacks and falls due to tripping. The report underscores the severity of traffic accidents, which accounted for a significant portion of the injuries recorded over the weekend.

The report emphasizes a road accident in which 10 people were injured when a vehicle veered off the road and overturned on Sunday on National Road 250 in the municipality of Cuito in Bi© Province. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace van that became stuck in the Cunje River, highlighting the dangers present on national roads.
