Mali/kangaba: A fire that broke out on Monday in the Koflati© market, in the Commune of Kaniogo, Kangaba district, injured 6 people, 5 of them seriously, causing significant material damage, but no loss of life.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the blaze resulted in the destruction of twenty hangars and their contents, including two motorcycles, a tricycle, a motor pump, a large sum of money, and both food and non-food items.
The strong sense of community in the area played a crucial role in controlling the fire and minimizing the damage. Local residents quickly evacuated the injured to the Kangaba referral health center, and subsequently, to Bamako for further medical attention. Additionally, the village community managed to raise 250,000 FCFA to provide first aid to the victims.
Upon being informed of the incident, Abou Dao, the prefect of the Kangaba district, accompanied by the Social Development and Civil Protection services, visited the market to offer the State's moral support to the village and the victims. He expressed gratitude to the village chief and his councilors for their assistance to the injured and praised the neighboring population's bravery, which helped in controlling the flames.
Before departing, the lieutenant firefighter responsible for civil protection advised the population to equip themselves with fire extinguishers to better handle similar situations in the future. Although the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, testimonies from the site suggest that the use of gas for Ramadan preparations may have triggered the disaster.
