The school Principal, James Mogusu, confirmed to press that the Wednesday afternoon fire incident started when the students were in their after-lunch classes.
According to Kenya News Agency, the principal stated that the fire began around 1500 hrs, when thick black smoke was seen emanating from the girls' dormitory. Immediate efforts were made to extinguish the fire, which spread rapidly across the dormitory block. The county disaster team, community members, and well-wishers responded swiftly to assist in putting out the blaze.
Mr. Mogusu confirmed that no student was hurt in the incident, although the fire destroyed bedding, student boxes, and the entire roof of the building housing 104 girls. He expressed gratitude to the MP for West Mugirango, Stephen Mogaka, who acted promptly when informed of the incident. The MP's office team provided new bedding for all 104 girls, allowing them to continue their studies without interruption.
Mr. Lucas Charana, Chairman of the West Mugirango Constituency Development Fund (CDF), affirmed that the MP directed support for the affected students to ensure they remain in school and do not miss their schedule. The CDF provided 104 mattresses, 104 blankets, and a pair of 104 bedsheets for the girls.
Mr. Mogusu mentioned that the cause of the fire has not yet been established, but investigations are underway as the relevant officers are handling the situation.
