Fine Young Stars Clinch Victory in Omaheke Top 8 Tournament


GOBABIS, OMAHEKE — Fine Young Stars emerged as the champions in both football and netball at the Omaheke Top 8 tournament, held at Legare Stadium in Gobabis this past Sunday. The event, a highlight on the Omaheke sports calendar, featured intense competition among local teams vying for top honors.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the competition unfolded smoothly over two weekends with 38 football teams and 22 netball teams from various districts of Omaheke participating. Tjonga noted that plans are underway to increase the prize money for future tournaments to encourage even greater participation and competition.



In netball, the Fine Young Stars won the championship after defeating Easter Swallows 37-29 in the final. The victory followed a semifinal walkover against the reigning champions Otjimanagombe, who did not show up. Fine Young Stars were awarded N$5,000 and a trophy for their triumph, while Easter Swallows received N$2,500 for second place.



The football segment concluded with an exciting Otjinene-Omongua derby between Fine Young Stars and Four Young Stars. After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Fine Young Stars secured the win 4-3 on penalties. They received N$12,000 and a trophy for their victory, and Four Young Stars took home N$8,000 as runners-up.



The event showcased remarkable talent and sportsmanship, with both the football and netball finals providing thrilling conclusions to the tournament. Plans for next year’s event are already in motion, with expectations of even fiercer competition as teams vie for the increased rewards.
