Luanda: At least 6,568 drug users were monitored in 2024 by the National Institute for the Fight Against Drugs (INALUD) in the various specialized units throughout the country, according to the national director of hospitals, Benedito Quintas.
According to Angola Press News Agency, during 2023, INALUD registered 17,868 users. Benedito Quintas also mentioned that last year, 404 talks and 64 campaigns were organized in different locations. Despite the decrease in the number of monitored users, there is a continued need to strengthen the commitment of the Commission to help combat drug use, especially among young people.
Ana Amade, director general of INALUD, expressed that the institute intends to expand special rooms in all the country's health units to provide adequate care for patients hospitalized due to drug use. INALUD was created by presidential decree to promote the implementation of integrated policies to prevent, educate, and combat legal and illegal drugs, the harmful use of alcohol, and the reduction of drug addiction.
