Ouagadougou: The Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for the Fight against Drugs (SP-CNLD) has launched an initiative titled “Offensive against drugs in schools” aimed at raising awareness among students over a seven-day period in 150 schools across the Central region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, No«l Kabor©, the Permanent Secretary of the SP-CNLD, announced the campaign’s commencement on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Baonghin primary school in Ouagadougou. The campaign targets 150 establishments, including five schools per rural commune and ten per district in Ouagadougou, to educate students about the dangers of drug consumption. Kabor© emphasized the importance of equipping students with knowledge about drug-related harms to prevent future issues as they progress to higher grades.
The campaign focuses on primary, secondary, and college levels, where children are increasingly exposed to drug-related phenomena. Kabor© outlined plans for subsequent phases, aiming to extend the initiative to 2,500 primary schools and 1,200 high schools and colleges in Ouagadougou and other regions, in pursuit of a “zero drugs in Burkina” goal.
Kabor© highlighted the committee’s comprehensive approach, which includes prevention, repression, health care, and social reintegration. He underscored the critical role of young people as the nation’s future, urging all stakeholders to contribute to creating drug-free environments in schools and families, fostering capable human resources to elevate the nation.
