HANOI: The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced Wednesday that the FIBA 3×3 World Tour is the world’s fastest-growing urban sport as the 2024 season was concluded in Hong Kong, China last month.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the social media interests grew significantly with impressions up by 46.4 percent from last year to 366 million, views up by 76 percent to 352 million, and engagements to 12 million up from 10 million in 2023. Fans from more than 150 countries and regions across all five continents watched the World Tour this season, and more than 300 players competed in the 17 stops of the World Tour and the 22 Challenger events.
“2024 has been a landmark year for 3×3, again setting new records and capturing hearts worldwide. The growth in fan engagement and reach solidifies 3×3 basketball as the global leader in urban sports. Thanks to our partners and organizers, we’re very pleased to see the sport continue to thrive and inspire,” said Alex Sanchez, Managing Director of FIBA 3×3.
“Looking ahead to 2025, fans can expect another thrilling season of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, with a similar number of events and an exciting opener set to take place in Utsunomiya (Japan) on April 26-27,” FIBA said.
