FESTACUNS 2025 Showcases Ancient Senufo Musical Instruments

K©n©dougou: The Solidarity Mutual Aid Plus Association (ASEP) organized the 4th edition of the Nanergu© S©noufo Arts and Culture Festival (FESTACUNS) in Kourouma from May 14 to 15, 2025. This event aims to promote ancient Senufo musical instruments that are in danger of disappearing. It was chaired by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the commune of Kourouma, Angadia Tankoano.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the festival was held under the theme: “Role of culture in the resilience and development of the commune of Kourouma: Issues, challenges and perspectives”. The event received patronage from the Member of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Drissa Sanogo, and sponsorships from the Director General of the National Culture Week (SNC), Christiane Sanou/Coulibaly, and the Chief of Kourouma, Mahama Traor©.



The president of ASEP, Cl©ment Sanogo, emphasized the festival’s objective to promote Senufo culture, especially focusing on the endangered ancient Senufo musical instruments. Sanogo urged the people of Kourouma to embrace the festival as a means to enhance and sustain Nanergu© Senoufo culture. He also expressed a desire to form a partnership with the management of the SNC.



Support for ASEP’s cultural initiative was expressed by Angadia Tankoano, Augustin Kahoun, and Mahama Traor©. They pledged their support in ASEP’s mission to promote cultural values. Drissa Sanogo encouraged the people of Kourouma to maintain unity and social cohesion during the festival.



Augustin Kahoun conducted a panel on the SNC presentation, detailing the judging criteria for the Grand Prix National des Arts competitions. He offered advice to young people to motivate their participation in the next edition of National Culture Week.



This year’s FESTACUNS coincided with the Day of Customs and Traditions. The festival featured various activities such as exhibitions of ancient Senufo musical instruments, artistic events, and a tourist excursion to Kourouma’s sacred caiman pond.
