Federal Police Committed to Building Police Force that Fits Ethiopia under Transformation, Says Commissioner General

Addis Ababa: The Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP) is committed to building a police force that fulfills the aspiration of Ethiopia which is under rapid transformation, Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael said. The 116th anniversary of the Ethiopian Police was commemorated in Addis Ababa, graced by the 5th Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation (EAPCCO) Sports Competition, drawing police athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Djibouti.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the dinner reception was hosted by the Ethiopian Federal Police at Sheraton Addis Hotel in connection with the successful conclusion of the 5th EAPCCO Games, which was underway in Addis Ababa from April 27 to May 3. Speaking at the occasion, the Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner General, Demelash Gebremichael, praised the participants of the fifth edition of the EAPCCO games, highlighting its success.



The event was attended by participants of the fifth edition EAPCCO games, officials, staff members of the Ethiopian Press Agency, and invited guests. Commissioner General Demelash emphasized that such events are crucial for enhancing collaboration and fruitful cooperation among police forces in the region.



He recalled that the Ethiopian Federal Police is one of the oldest police institutions in Africa and noted that significant security sector reform has been carried out over the last seven years. Commissioner General Demelash reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to building a police force that reflects its 116-year-long experience and meets the needs of a country undergoing transformation. Today, the Ethiopian Federal Police stands proud as an established institution.
