Luanda: The president of Portugal’s FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, arrived in Luanda on Tuesday morning for a three-day working visit aimed at strengthening institutional relationships with Angola’s sports bodies. Villas-Boas expressed the emotional significance of the trip, highlighting the importance of engaging with FC Porto’s fanbase in Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Villas-Boas noted that he is not the first club president to visit Angola, mentioning that previous leaders “left Angola with their hearts full.” This visit marks his first as the 32nd president of FC Porto, following his election earlier this year as a successor to Jorge Pinto da Costa.
During his visit, Villas-Boas traveled to Calomboloca in Luanda province to visit the Catholic Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. His itinerary also includes a visit to the club’s facilities in Maianga, as well as meetings with key figures such as the Governor of Luanda Province and the Minister of Youth and Sports. On Wednesday,
he is scheduled to visit the AFA Football Academy in Morro Bento.
André Villas-Boas, 41, officially took office on May 7, 2024, after being elected with 21,489 votes. He has a distinguished career, having managed teams including Associação Académica de Coimbra, FC Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, FC Zenit, Shanghai PFC, and Olympique de Marseille. During his previous tenure at FC Porto, Villas-Boas secured several titles, including the Sndido de Oliveira Super Cup, National Championship, Europa League, and Portuguese Cup in 2011. He was also ranked as the 4th best coach by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
