TSUMEB: A tragic accident occurred near Tsumeb on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years of age, after he was struck by a train.

According to NAMPA, the train was en route from Tsumeb to Okapuka near Otavi when the operator, navigating a railway curve roughly 10 kilometres outside of Tsumeb, spotted what seemed to be a person lying on the tracks. Despite immediate efforts to halt the train, it was unable to stop in time, resulting in the fatal incident.

Upon bringing the train to a stop, the operator confirmed that the victim was an adult male. The deceased’s body was subsequently transported to Tsumeb State Hospital to undergo a post-mortem examination, with investigations into the incident continuing.

In light of this tragedy, Neels took the opportunity to appeal to the public, urging them to maintain a safe distance from railway lines. He emphasized that trains cannot come to an immediate halt once the brakes are engaged and called for heightened caution when crossing railway tracks.
