GIBEON — A dispute over a mere N.dollars 5 led to a fatal stabbing at a local bar in Gibeon early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man, Markus Willem Theodor.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident occurred around 02:30 AM at the bar where it is alleged that the suspect, a 25-year-old man, stabbed Theodor in the chest with an unknown object during an argument about the small sum of money owed. The report detailed that the victim was unable to pay the amount demanded, which led to the tragic escalation.
Emergency efforts to save Theodor were made as he was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle, but he succumbed to his injuries while under medical care. The suspect is expected to appear in the Mariental Magistrate's Court on Tuesday facing charges related to the incident.
In a separate but similarly tragic incident, police in Swakopmund are investigating another murder that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the DRC informal settlement. A 21-year-old man, Ui-Basen Jesley Nowaseb, was fatally stabbed by an unknown assailant. The report suggests that Nowaseb was walking home from a pub, ahead of his friends, when he was attacked. Despite a struggle between Nowaseb and his attacker, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.
NamPol confirmed that the next of kin of all deceased individuals have been notified and that investigations into both cases are ongoing.
