OUAGADOUGOU: The government of Burkina Faso has launched a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the urban landscape and infrastructure of the country. Dubbed “Faso Mêbo,” the initiative was adopted during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President Ibrahim Traore, focusing on constructing low-cost road infrastructure and urban beautification.

The Minister of State and Government Spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO, emphasized that this project underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the needs and challenges faced by the Burkinabe population. The initiative comprises two primary components: the development of road infrastructure by road brigades to reduce costs and the enhancement of urban areas through the construction of decent housing, sanitation facilities, and the creation of green public spaces.
Additionally, the Council of Ministe
rs approved various other significant measures. These include the establishment of the National Artistic Ensembles aimed at revitalizing the cultural sector and a preliminary draft law on the Status of the Artist in Burkina Faso, which acknowledges the growing role of digital platforms in the exploitation of artistic works.
The industrial sector also saw critical developments with the adoption of two decrees. The first establishes a mixed economy company for the Kokologho Integrated Pharmaceutical Technopole Management Company, set to spearhead research and production of pharmaceutical products. The second decree standardizes the criteria for granting balance sheet bonuses across state companies and public social welfare institutions, projected to save approximately 4.2 billion CFA francs. These savings are intended for reinvestment into social infrastructure to benefit the citizens of Burkina Faso.
