Koubri: Farmers, technicians, and experts from the agricultural and pastoral sectors gathered last Saturday in Koubri to engage in discussions on President Ibrahim Traoré’s Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive (OAPH) initiative, alongside other emerging sectors. Organized by the Kilsi Agro consortium, the event provided a platform to showcase the potential of Koubri and the opportunities presented by this presidential initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the framework for discussions, which took place on November 16, 2024, emphasized the significance of the OAPH in enhancing agricultural and pastoral productivity. Séverine Ouédraogo/Sebogo, the Regional Director of Agriculture, Animal Resources, and Fisheries of the Central Region, highlighted Koubri’s 27 dams and its role as a primary supplier of market garden produce to Ouagadougou. She underscored Koubri’s potential to significantly contribute to the objectives of the OAPH through its numerous farms.
Gaël S. Yaméogo, Regional Director of
Water and Sanitation for the Centre-North region, elaborated on his sector’s contributions to the OAPH, which include high-flow drilling projects capable of reaching depths between 300m to 500m and surface water management. Patrick Gampiné, Mission Officer of the President of Faso for the Central region, lauded the initiative, encouraging farmers and youth to return to agriculture for national development, citing examples from Japan, the United States, and India.
Experts at the meeting urged participants to explore industrial production of crops like cocoa, wheat, plantain, corn, and more. They pledged support for interested individuals to better organize agricultural value chains. Léonard S. Gougou, Chief of Koubri and President of the Special Delegation of Koubri, praised the initiative for facilitating discussions on industrial production challenges and emerging sectors.
Kilsi Agro, the consortium behind the meeting, is dedicated to supporting and facilitating farm establishment and agricultural projects
through training and various forms of support.
