Oshakati: A 52-year-old woman has allegedly been defrauded of N.dollars 472,000 by an unknown suspect through police impersonation. The Namibian Police Force's crime investigations coordinator in the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila, said the scam, which occurred between 16 and 26 June 2025, was reported to the police on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the incidents took place on various occasions in Oshakati, Ongwediva, and Oshikango. Ndjadila said it is alleged that the scheme began when the victim was at the Oshakati NaTIS office, awaiting the results of her learner licence test. She received a phone call from an individual who convinced her to buy a driver's license.
The initial deception then escalated into a fabricated arrest by individuals posing as police officers. The fake officers informed the victim that she needed to pay a substantial amount of money to avoid arrest. She then withdrew various amounts on different days, while some sums were transferred straight from her account into a Bank Windhoek account as instructed by the fraudsters.
Ndjadila stated that no arrests have been made yet in connection with the case, and none of the funds have been recovered. Police investigation into the matter continues.
