Faith Based Organizations Align Interventions with County Development Agenda in Turkana

Turkana: The County Government, through the Department of Resource Mobilisation, Partnerships and Donor Coordination (RMPDC), convened a workshop with more than 20 faith-based organizations operating across Turkana County. The aim was to align their interventions with the County's development agenda.

According to Kenya News Agency, the workshop was supported by Sustainable Approaches for Community Empowerment (SAPCONE) and sought to understand the existing implementations of faith-based organizations across the county. It aimed to map their geographic and thematic areas of operation to align FBO projects with the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) pillars, avoiding duplication and ensuring equitable resource distribution across all sub-counties.

Raphael Logum, Director of Resource Mobilisation, Partnerships and Donor Coordination, emphasized the necessity for structured engagement between the County and faith-based actors. He noted that the department was established to ensure no part of Turkana is left behind in development, highlighting that resources should address the challenges faced by the people of Turkana, especially in underserved areas.

Deputy Director Michael Aupe explained the benefits FBOs could gain through the CIDP as an integrated development tool. He noted that formal alignment would open pathways for co-funding and sustainability. Aupe stated, "The CIDP is not just a government document; it is a shared roadmap. When FBOs align with it, we can together address gaps, avoid duplication, and implement interventions that have lasting impact."

Susan Aletia, representing the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO), appreciated the department for convening the workshop. She noted that FBOs play a critical role in reaching the most remote communities in Turkana and called for their inclusion in coordination platforms such as Sector Working Groups. Aletia emphasized the need for strengthened communication among development actors and the long-term goal of achieving fully integrated development coordination where the County Government has visibility over all projects.

Each FBO present shared their geographic and thematic areas of operation, enabling the RMPDC department to map and align their projects with CIDP priorities. Among the FBOs represented were the Diocese of Lodwar, AIC Health Ministries, Compassion International, and Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, among others.
