Fada N’Gourma Market Cleared of Garbage for Improved Environment


Fada N’Gourma: The central market of Fada N’Gourma was cleared of its garbage during a sanitation day organized by the regional directorates in charge of Sanitation, Water and Forests of the East and the town hall of Fada N’Gourma. The initiative, held on May 31, 2025, aimed to enhance the working conditions for traders and customers.



According to Burkina Information Agency, this effort was part of the activities leading up to the commemoration of World Environment Day (WED) on June 5, 2025, with a focus on “The fight against plastic pollution.” The event addressed waste issues as sources of diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and cholera.



The High Commissioner of Gourma Province, Silas Nacanabo, stated that the action aligned with the World Water Day 2025 commemoration. T©gawend© Issaka Juste Ou©draogo, the regional director of Sanitation in the East, explained the objective was to raise awareness about plastic-related issues. He noted the choice of the central market was deliberate due to its role in the marketing and distribution of plastic bags.



Ou©draogo emphasized the need to raise awareness among market users regarding the harmful effects of plastic on humans, animals, and nature. He urged market users to adhere to the Burkinabe law prohibiting plastic bags.



Traders at the Fada N’Gourma central market expressed their appreciation for the cleanup initiative. Inoussa Koadima, general treasurer of the market management committee, stated that traders were pleased with the clean environment and expressed hope for more such actions from the public administration. He mentioned that traders plan to organize weekly cleanups to maintain the market’s cleanliness.
