Fada N'Gourma: The Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Emile Zerbo, officially inaugurated the 14th National Fire Brigade (BNSP) in Fada N'Gourma on January 20, 2025. This new fire station extends its area of intervention to the provinces of Gourma, Tapoa, Gnagna, Kompienga, and Komondjari.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the inauguration fulfills a commitment made by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, on May 27, 2023. He promised to equip the Eastern region with a firefighter unit to address local concerns about civil protection. This new facility, now officially operational, is a significant development for the region.
Minister Emile Zerbo emphasized Fada N'Gourma's strategic role as the capital of the Eastern region. The establishment of the fire brigade is intended to support socio-economic development and ensure the health and safety of the population. It also aims to protect property with economic, cultural, and environmental significance.
The minister explained that the firefighters stationed at the new barracks are tasked with ensuring the safety of people and property. They are prepared to handle various threats, including fires, road traffic accidents, and floods. Since their deployment on June 10, 2023, the firefighters have conducted 805 interventions, dealing with 941 victims, and unfortunately, recorded 29 fatalities.
Yempabou Noel Combary, a resident of Fada N'Gourma, expressed that establishing a fire station in the city is a fair acknowledgment of the region's significance and economic potential. He recalled an incident involving the SOCOMA fire, where firefighters had to travel from Ouagadougou, highlighting the urgent need for a local firefighting unit to reduce response times in emergencies.
