The Western Australian government seeks six new members to appoint to the state’s heritage council.

The council makes recommendations to the heritage minster on entries to the state heritage register, determines the state’s heritage strategy and policy, and advises relevant bodies on the management and development of heritage places.

The council comprises nine members with experience and technical skills in any of several fields: architecture, landscape architecture, heritage conservation or interpretation, urban and regional planning, and others per Heritage Act 2018 (WA) section 14.

New members will be appointed by the heritage minister for terms of up to four years. The government particularly seeks nominations from experts in landscape architecture, Aboriginal cultural heritage, engineering and law.

“Western Australia’s heritage is multifaceted, and the Heritage Council is instrumental in promoting the identification, conservation, and sensitive development of our precious cultural heritage places,” said acting heritage minister Tony Buti.

“Council members play a strategic part in managing, caring [for], and protecting our State’s cultural heritage. I strongly encourage qualified candidates to put their names forward for this incredible opportunity.”

Applications are open until 11 August 2023.
