Seoul: Former President Yoon Suk Yeol will not be appearing for police questioning this week regarding charges linked to his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law, as stated by one of his legal representatives on Tuesday.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Yoon’s lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, announced plans to submit a statement to the police on Wednesday, arguing that a summons for investigation is “unnecessary.” The former president was scheduled to appear for questioning on Thursday concerning allegations that he instructed the Presidential Security Service (PSS) to prevent the execution of a detention warrant against him in early January.
Additionally, Yoon faces accusations of directing the PSS to erase records from secure phones used by three military commanders shortly after his martial law bid failed. When questioned about Yoon’s willingness to cooperate with an investigation should the police visit him directly, the lawyer indicated that a decision would depend on the police’s reaction to their statement.
The police noted that Yoon had previously defied a summons to appear for questioning on June 5.
