Nairobi: Pioneer Siaya County Assembly members want former Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth to vie for the Siaya senate seat in the next General Elections, vowing to support him.
According to Kenya News Agency, the former MCAs, led by former Yimbo West MCA Elisha Okuku, met under the Pioneer MCAs community-based organisation and expressed their support for Rasanga. They commended him for playing a key role in establishing a foundation for the county's development and emphasized that he would be well-suited to oversee devolution in the senate.
The former MCAs gathered at a hotel in Gombe, on the outskirts of Siaya town, and urged both the county and national governments not to overlook them in development matters. They highlighted their potential contributions to the county's development as leaders and expressed a desire to meet President William Ruto to discuss development initiatives for Siaya.
Rasanga, who accepted the endorsement, stated that he would consult with other stakeholders and interest groups before officially entering the race for the senate seat, which is currently held by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga. The former governor affirmed his ongoing commitment to politics and described the group of ex-MCAs as 'God-ordained.'
