European Union and Burkina Faso Strengthen Cooperation Amid New Priorities

L©raba: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo met with Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Burkina Faso. During this meeting, the Prime Minister outlined the country’s priorities and the nature of future cooperation with international partners.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Prime Minister Ou©draogo emphasized the government’s focus on security, asserting that ensuring the safety of citizens across the nation is paramount. He expressed Burkina Faso’s commitment to maintaining sovereignty and pursuing a transformative path, relying primarily on internal resources and supportive allies aligned with the country’s vision.



The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of honest cooperation, particularly in light of certain bilateral relations questioned by European partners. He stressed Burkina Faso’s willingness to engage with nations that respect its sovereignty and values, indicating a preference for partnerships that deliver tangible benefits.



Ambassador Gaztelumendi acknowledged the Prime Minister’s General Policy Statement from December 27, 2024, and used the meeting to commend Ou©draogo on his recent appointment. He sought to gain deeper insight into the government’s agenda and priorities.



Before concluding the meeting, the EU delegation head announced an upcoming visit by the new European Union special representative for the Sahel region, underscoring the ongoing commitment to collaboration between Burkina Faso and the EU.
